7 days of mindfulness is a campaign to raise awareness of the different situations you can incorporate mindfulness into everyday life. Check back every day to see a range of activities you can be mindful in. Day 3 was cooking.
Today's activity is eating. Many of you will be saying "I love eating, it's my favourite part of the day (other than sleeping of course)". But many of us rush our food and try to eat as quickly as we can to make more time for other activities. By making mindfulness one of your eating habits you will start to see benefits such as lower appetite and weight control.
An important part of eating is relaxing. Before eating a meal make sure you find a comfortable, distraction free place to eat. So that means no tv or no phone! Once you've taken a few deep breaths, start to slowly eat your food. Focusing on each and every bite. What different flavours can you taste? What foods can you smell? What textures can you feel? Chew your food slowly and feel your body digest the food. This can help realise when your stomach is full and can help overeating.
Mindfulness has been proven to help weight control when included in exercising and eating. Check back tomorrow for more tips on how to be mindful in everyday life.
Do you practice mindfulness whilst eating? Do you feel that it helps you in having a healthy balanced diet?
